Thermal Integrity Profiler (TIP)

Thermal Integrity Profiler (TIP)

This is the latest technology used in evaluating the integrity and the verticality of bored cast-in-situ piles, diaphragm walls, soil nails, and jet-grouted columns. The Thermal Integrity Profiler (TIP™) uses the heat generated by curing cement to assess the entire cross-section and the entire length of the foundation.

This overcomes the limitations experienced with CSL, such as the evaluation of cross- section only within the reinforcement cage and missing out on anomalies outside the direct CSL transmission path.

The thermal wire cables with uniformly spaced thermal sensors are tied to the rebar cage prior to lowering into the pile bore. One (1) thermal cable per 300mm pile diameter is recommended.

The thermal sensors start reading the concrete temperature as soon as it is poured. Each thermal cable is connected to a TAP (Thermal Acquisition Port) to read the temperature. The Thermal Aggregator (TAG) unit will send the data to the cloud for remote monitoring.

The temperature data acquired is analysed further to evaluate

  • Necks or inclusions (regions that are colder than average), bulges (regions that are warmer than average)
  • Variations in concrete cover
  • Shape of the shaft
  • Cage alignment
