An important part of bored pile construction is the cleaning and inspection of the bottom of the hole prior to the placement of reinforcement and concrete. SQUID is used for quantitative, real-time assessment of the cleanliness and competency of the bottom surface of the bored pile or drilled shaft foundations. This enables the contractor to decide whether further cleaning is required if the bottom of the pile bore is found to have debris with thickness exceeding the allowable limits.
The SQUID can be attached to any drill stem or Kelly bar and lowered into the pile bore until the cone penetrometer and displacement transducer read the measurements.
The data acquired is analysed further to determine both the thickness of soft material or debris that might be covering the bearing strata, providing force and displacement in numerical and graphical form.
